Everyone needs to buy this cd immediately. I was told about Bon Iver while we were staying in Portland, Maine. The guy who described Bon Iver’s music told me to picture a very large black man sitting on a stool in a wheat field, strumming an old acoustic guitar, and singing in a high falsetto voice the prettiest melodies you have ever heard.
Needless to say, once I got home from tour I immediately acquired the cd. However, it turns out Bon Iver isn’t a large black man, but a skinny white guy with a knack for writing catchy laidback folk songs. Apparently all of the material on For Emma was written while living alone in the wilderness of Wisconsin In a cabin his father built. I think that location has alot to do with song writing and you can feel the isolation on this record.
