It’s about 2am. I just got back from seeing …Who Calls So Loud at the Barclay house in Baltimore. They honestly didn’t blow me away like I was expecting. They were good, better than most bands, but kind of sloppy. I was expecting so much more because literally every show we played on tour someone mentioned how amazing they were live. They seemed like super nice dudes though and they have some really nice looking merch.
After taking a minute to read their latest blog post I can see why this show may have been an off night for them. Here are the cliff notes: 3 of the dudes have the flu, their van has a hole in the roof and smells like wet dog, their equipment and personal items got soaked, they have already played 80 shows this tour, relationship woes for one guy, and a separate cheating girlfriend back home for another. FUGG, sorry guys, I would be bummed too.
Apparently tonight was ROTA’s last show. That’s a bummer because the demos they have up on their myspace are pretty sick. I saw them play once before at the abandoned snake house (their first show I believe?) but one of their guitarists wasn’t there for that show so tonight I got to experience the full band. They played well but it was kind of obvious that there were some strains between them. Hopefully each of the members will go on to create a new band. Also, their singer has the most brutally piercing scream I’ve ever heard.
The Blue Letter had a TON of equipment. The guitarist played out of four 4×12 guitar cabinets and had a giant rackmount system. The bassist had one 8×12 cabinet and two small 2×10 cabs. Their set was insane. I would’ve bought some merch if I wasn’t so broke.
…Who Calls So Loud — The Blue Letter — ROTA
I’d write more but I want to shower and wash all the smoke off of me.

Hey! i was at this show too and it’s great to see a review of it. i definitely felt some of the tension during the ROTA set too…but to be honest i was less than pleased with the set. they were sloppy drunk, and as much as i love their music the way one of their guitarists was treating his girlfriend outside after the show was absolutely ridiculous. i love this blog, keep it up and check mine out!
