JR, a self-described undercover photographer, has just completed another portion of his 28 Milimeter: Women series – this time in slums of Kibera, Kenya. JR and his team of locals covered more than 2000 square meters of rooftops and train cars with portraits of the women of Kibera. When the train cars pass through the town, the eyes and the lower half of the faces meet up for a brief second. On his website JR tells us a little bit about the project and his motivation behind these images.
“The Women project wants to underline their pivotal role [in society] and to highlight their dignity by shooting them in their daily lives and posting them on the walls of their country. On the other hand, by posting the same images of these women in Western countries, the project allows everyone to feel concerned by their condition and connects, through art, the two different worlds.”
