First post/Burn Magazine

04.04.09 | Comment?

So one characteristic both of my jobs seem to share is an abundance of time in front of a computer. Chad has been asking for a while that I start to regularly contribute to stokingtheroots, and I’ve only recently felt like that computer time has amounted to so much that I could attempt to do so. So here’s to the first of (hopefully) many posts in the future, and perhaps a few other projects we’ve been talking about.

+ Burn Magazine

Burn Magazine is an online compilation of user submitted photographic essays or single shots selected for feature. David Alan Harvey, member of the infamous Magnum Photographers, curates the project and describes it as an “evolving journal for emerging photographers”. He offers great insight and often posts images and essays that vary in format and content to get his audience talking. And they certainly do discuss! – It has an extremely high rate of viewer interaction, with many of its posts receiving over 100 comments in discussion of the photographic work at hand. They are also offering a $10,000 grant for an emerging photographer (out of 1,029 entrants!) that will be announced later this year.
