+ Goggle Maps LARPing
This is picture is old to the internet, but new to me. LARPers are the lowest form of nerds. They are the scum on the bottom of the dirty Reebok classics that the sweaty kid at your middle school wore while reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Beautiful.
+ Deconstructing the Genius Myth
This article reinforces the old adage “practice makes perfect.”
“What Mozart had, we now believe, was the same thing Tiger Woods had — the ability to focus for long periods of time and a father intent on improving his skills. Mozart played a lot of piano at a very young age, so he got his 10,000 hours of practice in early and then he built from there.”
It is interesting to read how David Brooks believes a typical genius may develop.
+ Mother’s Day
I should’ve posted this yesterday.
+ Duane Hanson
There’s a cool post over at Supertouch on the late Duane Hanson’s hyper-realistic sculptures.
Thematically, Hanson was concerned with the man on the street and sought to portray the marginalized members of society he saw around him every day: “People, workers, the elderly, all these people I see with sympathy and affection. These are the people who have fought the battle of life and who now and then show the hard work and the frustration … It’s all about human activity, it’s truth, and we all get there.”
Check it out HERE.

Dude, I saw a bunch of his work at the Ringling Museum a few years ago. It was incredible. The exhibit started in a room with art hanging on the walls, and no sculpture. Until we realized that these two old people sitting on a bench looking at a painting actually were the sculpture. It was unbelievable, it was so good. This isn’t the same exhibit, but this is the sculpture:

haha that’s awesome. I guess that’s just a testament to how realistic he was able to make his sculptures appear.
Yeah dude, the way he painted the skin and everything was insane. Also, you should do a Google image search of “google maps street view”. You can find lots of sweet gems like this one:
