I’ve been anticipating this album for a long time. Although Daughters have always been a chaotic band I feel like with every new album release their sound progresses towards a more melodic controlled form of chaos.
Daughters previous release, Hell Songs, showed the band’s songwriting moving away from the grinding, spastic and chaotic song structures that made them popular towards a sound that focused heavily on melodic structures (ie repeated passages, vocal repetition, etc). The most noticeable difference between their earlier releases and their new material is that their vocalist stopped screaming and started talking/yelling when necessary. With most heavy bands a vocal approach like this wouldn’t work, but with the Daughters it just makes their songs sound that much creepier.
Anyway, I haven’t listened to this album enough to give a proper review – it’s just been very highly anticipated. Get it!
