It’s refreshing to see a “hardcore” band branch out into territory that is rarely explored in the genre.  Their new song Ballots/Stones, which I wouldn’t classify as hardcore, reminds me of a mixture of the clash, the smiths and wham – mixed with a bit of punk.  Sounds interesting, right?  Check it out HERE.

Mark Gormley is a dude from Pensacola, Florida who writes kind of awful, kind of extraordinary 70′s styled rock songs.  Encyclopedia Dramatica says he was “the first major Youtube celebrity of 2009,”  whatever that means.

BMore Musically Informed just posted their top 20 Baltimore albums of 2009.  Top artists include Dan Deacon, Double Dagger, Jason Urick and Wye Oak.

The list is heavily oriented towards the indie rock crowd so don’t expect to see anything you’d find on this blog – well aside from Double Dagger.  Good list though – a ton of good recommendations to check out.

+ Life Without Buildings

Hardcore for Nerds did a post a few days ago on a band from Glasgow, Scottland called Life Without Buildings who released a posthumous live album in 2007 entitled Live at Annandale Hotel.

They have one of the most interesting vocalists I’ve ever heard.  She enunciates vowels, stutter speaks, repeats herself and fires off lyrics in rapid procession.  It’s very unique and difficult to describe in writing.  Also, I love her accent.
