Great Things
+ The new Balance and Composure song Kaleidoscope is soo fucking good. Listen to it HERE. They’re releasing a split with Tigers Jaw in May which features 4 new songs from both bands. I’m really looking forward to that.
+ 4Chan founder interviewed at the TED conference. Nothing really profound happens in the interview but [...]
Disregard my initial criticism of this album because I haven’t taken the time to sit down and give it a good in-depth listen (which is one of my old man gripes below).
I should be more excited about Have One on Me considering how incredible Joanna Newsom’s last album Ys was but I can not get [...]
Chalk Talk is an infectiously happy three piece punk band from Connecticut/Massachusetts.
While watching them play through their set in a VFW hall in Massachusetts a few weeks back I couldn’t help but think that they are the embodiment of what I envision an early Blink 182 show being like.. They heckled the crowed, yelled a bunch of crude words, [...]
It fucking blows my mind that Die Antwoord is a real rap group. These are 3 goofy looking people from South Africa who rap about being Ninjas and other equally awesome subjects. This is like rap that is specifically tailored to get huge on the internet.
Also, I’m pretty sure TsimFuckis (otherwise known as alien boy) [...]

Tigers Jaw’s sound is reminiscent of bands like The Get Up Kids or early Taking Back Sunday – not so much musically as in the overall “feeling” of the album, which I know is a very generalized statement but just trust me – after you listen, you’ll know.
I catch [...]
+ Ipad
Apple announced a new device called the Ipad today – which is basically a 9 inch iphone with a nice UI that can browse the Internet, play videos and run apps.
I’m excited to see where comics and graphic novels will fit into the fold when this device blows up and everyone on the planet owns [...]
Kyle Durfey is the singer of Pianos. He loves to eat burritos and he has many cousins who love him very much. He’s on tour now – in Ohio today, I believe. Here are his favorite albums of 2009 (and some 2008’s that he snuck in).
“So Some of the records that would have made this list [...]
Zac Sewell, bassist for Pianos Become the Teeth and an all around awesome guy, recently emailed me his best albums of ‘09 list. If you have the chance, go say hi to Zac and the rest of the Pianos guys because they are on tour right now.

My friend Alex, of the Baltimore-based folk group A Cat Called Cricket, just sent me a list of his favorite albums of 2009. (See, I told you, if you send me a list, I will post it.) Coincidentally, he just relocated his online musings to a new dirt lot on the internet - Scenic Route Recordings. [...]
In retrospect, after writing up this little list, 2009 was a bit underwhelming musically for me. I know a bunch of good albums were released in 2009, but only a few particularly blew me away. Maybe I’m just turning into a jaded old man? Probably.
I’ve asked a few friends to write up a list of [...]
