Daitro‘s newest record Y was recently released in Europe (which you can order from purepainsugar).  Apparently a US vinyl release date is in the works – as well as a cd release date.

The album is receiving a ton of positive reviews so far and I’m in general agreeance with the blogosphere.  This is definitely a well written and solid album, though I think it will take me some time to digest it all.

If you have never listened to Daitro before their music is comparable to bands like Sed Non Satitata, Suis la Lune, and my favorite European screamo band Amanda Woodward.

Honestly, I don’t even know if I would describe this album as a screamo album.  It has screamo elements to it.  I mean it has screaming and it’s moody but for some reason I just get a softer vibe from this record.  To me it would be more aptly described as a heavy indie rock record.

The guitar tones on this record really stand out to me.  They’re nice and crisp – over-driven just the right amount so that the amplifiers break up when the guitar is strummed hard but doesn’t devolve into a muddy mess when the tempo picks up.  This is a choice that I think a lot of European screamo bands get right.  This may be why so many Euro bands sound similar to me.
