Ate an ungodly amount of food last night. Got off work early this afternoon. Today is pay day. Went to the store to restock my apartment with food and also buy ingredients for a buffalo wing lunch. double shot of espresso. Arrive home and find my Have Heart final show vinyl waiting on my doorstep. So far so good.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

+ Heathers – Waiter

I haven’t perused IfYouMakeIt in a while so today I’ve been going over all the sessions I’ve missed out on. IIOI just did a pink couch session that’s well worth your time. Koji recorded a session at the same time but it looks like it hasn’t been posted yet. Bummer. This Cara Beth Satalino video is still the best thing on IYMI.

Here’s another old favorite.

+ How to become a Millionaire in Three Years

Thinking about starting a company? Read this.

Obvious, but good advice none the less.

“Be an unrelenting machine- Brick walls are there to show you how bad you want something. Commit to your goals and do not waver from them a one bit regardless of what else is there. I took this approach to losing weight and fitness. I have not missed a single 5k run in over a year. (Here’s how I lost 50 pounds btw). It did not matter if I had not slept for two days, traveling across the country, or whatever else. If your goal is to become a millionaire, you need to be an unrelenting machine that does not let emotions make you give up / stop. You either get it done with 100% commitment or you don’t. Be a machine.”

+ Tigers Jaw – Two Worlds

From the few posts I’ve read on the internet it looks like they don’t want people sharing download links for this so I won’t post it up. But it’s out – go download it from their bandcamp for $8 bucks.

Moneen’s Are We Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now was released on Vagrant Records in 2003 – around the time post-hardcore was becoming popular in the mainstream and pop(punk)-rock bands like Saves the Day were in their hey day (STD was actually signed to Dreamworks during this time).

My favorite thing about Are We Really Happy… is that you can tell that the band labored over these songs.

Right from the get-go, it’s hard not to like these guys. During the first song, the title track, a surface observation would be that the singer sounds a lot like Matt Pryor from the Get Up Kids, not a bad thing. As the song goes on, the spastic, fast guitars and intricate rhythms remind me of the Casket Lottery, and the great melodies of Jimmy Eat World. The bridge sections fades to a heavy-reverb spacey guitar, and then unpredictable hits come in, bringing the rest of the band back for a strong ending, bringing thoughts of the intensity of Cursive.

Chalk Talk is an infectiously happy three piece punk band from Connecticut/Massachusetts.

While watching them play through their set in a VFW hall in Massachusetts a few weeks back I couldn’t help but think that they are the embodiment of what I envision an early Blink 182 show being like.. They heckled the crowed, yelled a bunch of crude words, made jokes, cobbled together a set list in between songs and were beaming with excitement and energy the whole time. It was great. It has been a long time since I’ve been to a show where every person in the crowd was singing along and jumping up and down for the majority of a set.

They just released a split cassette with Black Churches (someone upload this, please?) and I believe they’re in the process of writing a full length and releasing a split with Algernon Cadwallader.

They also do that falsetto harmonizing thing that early Weezer liked to do which I’m a big fan of.

Whenever the weather warms up I get an urge to listen to Saves the Day and Fairweather all day long. I was going to upload the actual Through Being Cool album but I figure if you listen to the music I post on this blog then you will almost certainly own Through Being Cool already. So here’s something for the collecters, a set of live recordings from the Through Being Cool sessions that feature songs from Can’t Slow Down and Through Being Cool. These are high quality recordings and not some crappy bootleg – you owe it to your inner 15 year old to download and enjoy these songs.

1. Intro
2. All-Star Me
3. The Choke
4. Interlude
5. Shoulder To The Wheel
6. Holly Hox, Forget Me Nots
7. The Last Lie I Told
8. Houses And Billboards
9. Sometimes, New Jersey
10. California (Instrumental)
11. The Vast Spoils Of America (From The Badlands Through The Ocean)
12. Hold (Various Mishaps)
13. Hold
