The Caution Children just released a new full length entitled “Vacations” on Tokyo Jupiter Records.

There’s something special about the way this band writes their music. Ian (guitar) and John (bass) both live in Florida, Nick (vocals) usually lives in Berkley, CA with his girlfriend, and Eddie (drums) lives in Athens, GA. They work collaboratively by sending each other snippets of ideas and building on them.

Stylistically their music straddles the line between post rock and screamo – the vocals are artsy (which I really love) and never feel dishonest or over dramatic. Ian’s guitars are heavily saturated with delay and reverb making volume swells and buildups, two techniques this band is really good at, feel monumental.

Apparently Ian recorded the entire album using his Mac’s internal microphone. The quality that he was able to achieve is mind blowing. For that fact alone you should order 2 copies.

I would upload the entire cd because I want everyone to experience it, but that would make me a bad friend. Instead, you should listen to one of my favorite tracks called “Our Movement in Squares”:

I’ve become I’ve become what I’ve always been afraid of

Without Context,

anything’s scary

A signpost, a pinprick, a new elaboration, I’m set

An arrow to follow, a far destination, I’m set

With each circle, I forget the lines between them

When I get there it’s not victory, it’s a breather

Confrontations become less important to me

I enjoy everything

Loose ends are commonplace

They are accepted

When the sun rises white and you’ve stayed up too long,

it feels good to know that

you’re still set in motion

The correlation becomes harder to calculate

It makes me smaller

The unexpected is a chore

It could take any excuse

Trial and error

To see what fits

I could try this on

For now

To see what fits

For now

Watch the car pull away from the place of the mailbox

An address

A welcomed door

Watch the car pull away from the place of the mailbox

An address

A welcomed door

A speck in the distance, shrinking from view, is easily missed

And go purchase the cd from their myspace.

2) It is currently hot as fugg in my room. I need to install some shades ASAP because I can feel the sweat pooling underneath my fingertips as I type.

3) Tour was really fun. I met some amazing individuals and made some life long friendships with the guys in The Caution Children. If only Grizzlebee hadn’t stolen my digital camera, then this post would be much more interesting. You would’ve been greeted with pictures of:

- A grown man’s butthole hovering over a 16 year old’s undeveloped nose. Don’t worry, he was wearing shorts (much to our displeasure).

- A drummer for a punk band in South Carolina that closely resembled a cross dressing-heroin addicted iggy pop.

- Sweaty dudes cooped up in a van for far too long throwing up hundreds of ‘pound it’ fists.

- A crack addled bum with drawing skills and a temper.

- A group hug involving at least 30 very sweaty people in Ft. Worth, Texas. This was led by the members of Best Friends! They also had everyone shout out “OPTIMISM!” during their set. Awesome guys.

- David creeping out a 13 year old kid who was wearing the exact same Slipknot shirt as him. They took a picture together at a rest area we stopped at on our way to Florida.

- A guy doing a ‘fake air jerk off’ while crowd surfing at the Spazz house in North Carolina. His jerk off reenactment closed with a special finish in which he flung a hand full of his fake baby batter into the crowd. Gross yet also strangely funny.
